On Saturday, September 14, 2019, the finale of the unique gentleman's game in the horse polo Prague Polo Cup 2019 was hosted at the Levín farm as per tradition. The final match was the culmination of a two-day, adrenaline-charged race between the polo clubs. In the finals, four teams of players from all over the world: Germany, Hungary, the USA, Slovakia and of course the Czech Republic, represented the teams of ALO Diamonds, Aston Group, Veuve Clicquot and Alchymist Luxury Hotel. The winner of the grand finale was the Alchymist Luxury Hotel team with players from renowned polo clubs - Put La Estancia from Budapest and Mashomack Polo Club NY USA.
The wonderful atmosphere of this exceptional sporting and social event was underscored by the wonderful summer weather, which was reflected in the wide participation of the general public, invited guests and partners of the tournament, representatives of international companies and horse polo lovers. The social zone was lit up by the orange champagne umbrellas of the French champagne brand Veuve Clicquot, a longtime partner of polo tournaments around the world, headed by the famous New York Polo Classic and Punta del Este. This tradition has been successfully maintained in the Czech Republic for 10 years.
The ladies present were adorned with beautiful hats or fascinators, elegant outfits, and gentlemen in stylish walking suits. Since its first year, the Prague Polo Cup has joined forces with the brand, which is absolutely number one in the world of horse polo. The exclusive Polo professional equipment supplier for Prague Polo Cup this year was La Martina.
The matches were commented by Dean Bedford - a heart and soul polo enthusiast and horse-polo player, as well as by Jan Zavazal, who draws experience in commenting from his colleague. Both commentators of the tournament brightened the atmosphere of the horseback rock & roll games in Levin.
Although horse polo in our country is still considered an unusual sport discipline and does not have a long history. Prague and respectively the Czech Republic have become one of the world's leading tourist destinations, where this noble and royal sport is slowly but surely setting it’s roots and the base of its supporters is growing gracefully.
In the Czech Republic, polo was played for the first time in 1993 at Prague's Strahov during a visit to Prince Edward of England in Prague. The polo tournament is also an exceptional social event, traditionally accompanied by very specific rules even regarding the dress code of visitors. For example, The UK's Ascot Golf Course, where the most prestigious polo tournaments take place, is issued annually by the Dress Guide for that year and this dress code is strictly followed. Each polo match is a very interesting show both on the pitch and in the auditorium.
